Analysis of print media in the election campaign

March 12, 2014

Centre for Monitoring Human Rights and Democracy House(hereinafter Center) continues with weekly analysis of daily press coverage of political parties. We analyzed the same eight newspapers (Danas, Politika, Blic, Alo, Kurir, Informer,VecernjeNovosti and NaseNovine) in the last week. The main trend of the campaign – a huge media support to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party continues. This party is favored in five of the eight observed papers (Novosti, Alo, Politika, Kurir,Informer–with 31 to 65 percent of coverage).Blic, Danas and Nasenovinedid not favore any party this week, while the daily Danas still holds, by far, the first place in the fair treatment and the diversity of the topics they cover, but also because it is the only newspaper that writes critically about the Serbian Progressive Party .

Very negative campaign waged against the largest opposition party in the newspapers Kurir and Informer confirms the third week in a row. In addition, Informer is increasingly focusing on the negative campaign against the Socialist Party of Serbia (the week of 9 articles on this party, 7 were negative). Kurir had 14 articles on the Democratic Party and all 14 were extremely negative (contrary published 30 articles on SNS and they are all positive).
