Bijeljina II

In June 2014, Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor indicted[1] Miodrag Zivkovic for committing war crimes against civilians under Article 142, paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, in complicity, as a member of the volunteer units in the Serbian armed forces. Allegedly, on the evening of 14 June 14 1992, in Bijeljina (BiH), Miodrag Zivkovic and members of the volunteer units Dragan Jovic, Zoran Djurdjevic, Alen Ristic[2] and one of the inhabitants, Danilo Spasojevic[3], went together to the house of Rama Avdic, who they beleived to be a „muslim extremist“ acquiring weapons for Muslims and whose house was „filled with weapons“. Zivkovic and other armed individuals entered the house, took the weapon from Avdic, searched the house and confiscated money and jewelry, and then sodomized and raped Nizama Avdic (daughter) and Hajreta Avdic (Rama’s daughter-in-law). Later, Dragan Jovic killed Rama Avdic. Then Zivkovic and others drove naked Nizama and Hajrete to Ljeljenca (Bijeljina municipality, BiH), where they stopped the vehicle and alternately raped and sodomized them, leaving them naked and barefoot on the road later on.

In April 2015, the War Crimes Department of the High Court in Belgrade issued a verdict which acquitted the accused Zivkovic. The judgment is not final.
