{"id":10050,"date":"2025-12-08T15:36:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-08T14:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/?p=10050"},"modified":"2026-02-23T15:39:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T14:39:06","slug":"training-on-strengthening-the-capacities-of-serbian-state-institutions-regarding-the-position-of-lgbti-refugees-asylum-seekers-and-people-on-the-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/en\/training-on-strengthening-the-capacities-of-serbian-state-institutions-regarding-the-position-of-lgbti-refugees-asylum-seekers-and-people-on-the-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Training on Strengthening the Capacities of Serbian State Institutions Regarding the Position of LGBTI+ Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and People on the Move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the third consecutive year, we organized a training titled: <em>Strengthening the Capacities of Service Providers and Decision-Makers from State Institutions of the Republic of Serbia Regarding the Position of LGBTI+ Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and People on the Move.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 5 December 2025, the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights organized the training as part of the <strong>EU4FAST<\/strong> project, financially supported by the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Italian Ministry of the Interior, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-9883 media-9883\" class=\"align-none\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_2199.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The aim of the training was to enhance institutional capacities and raise awareness among representatives of state institutions for working with the LGBTI+ community by increasing knowledge of LGBTI+ rights, fostering networking and experience exchange, and strengthening skills for providing adequate support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participants attended lectures and workshops led by experts with extensive experience in LGBTI+ rights and work with refugees. Aleksa Savi\u0107, Executive Director of the <em>IZA\u0110I<\/em> Group, opened the training with a lecture on terminology and the historical development of the LGBTI+ community in Serbia. This was followed by a session led by Kristian Ran\u0111elovi\u0107, Executive Director of <em>XY Spectrum<\/em>, who spoke about the position of trans and intersex persons and the everyday challenges they face in Serbia.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-9881 media-9881\" class=\"align-none\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_2200.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vladimir Sjeklo\u0107a, Director of the Centre for Crisis Policy and Response, introduced participants to the lives of LGBTI+ refugees in their countries of origin and to various legal frameworks that criminalize LGBTI+ communities. The programme also included a workshop on discrimination and stereotypes titled <em>\u201cLabels\u201d<\/em>, facilitated by Jelena Kosti\u0107, a social worker with Jesuit Refugee Services (JRS) Serbia. The training concluded with a session on the legal aspects of protecting LGBTI+ refugees and asylum seekers, delivered by Petar Vidosavljevi\u0107, legal officer at the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-9879 media-9879\" class=\"align-none\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG_3476.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The training was implemented within the project <em>\u201cSpecialized Support to (Potential) Victims of Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking and Legal Pathways for Vulnerable Groups in Serbia\u201d<\/em>, carried out under the regional <strong>EU4FAST<\/strong> initiative.
