{"id":2202,"date":"2007-12-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-12-06T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/krivicna-prijava-protiv-dragana-jovanovica-2\/"},"modified":"2021-01-21T14:19:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-21T13:19:20","slug":"criminal-report-dragan-jovanovic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/en\/criminal-report-dragan-jovanovic\/","title":{"rendered":"Criminal report against Dragan Jovanovi\u0107"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights on 7 December filed a criminal report against Topola Mayor Dragan Jovanovi\u0107 for committing the offence incriminated by Article 387(2) of the Criminal Code (racial and other discrimination) by interrupting the promotion of the radio show Pe\u0161\u010danik (Hourglass) and the statements he subsequently made.Following is the text of the criminal report:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">CRIMINAL REPORT<\/h3>\n<p>The subject of the report, Dragan Jovanovi\u0107, on 3 December 2007 organised and led a group of citizens in the attempt to violently prevent the holding of a gathering \u2013 panel discussion and promotion of the show Pe\u0161\u010danik at the Arandjelovac Culture Hall. As he himself admitted and as was corroborated in the official statement of the political party, New Serbia, the senior official of which Jovanovi\u0107 is, Jovanovi\u0107 organised the group with the intention of preventing the holding of the announced gathering and openly advocated resort to physical violence against citizens and organisations, including the authors of Pe\u0161\u010danik, participants in the panel discussion and RTV B92.<\/p>\n<p>Jovanovi\u0107 thus committed the offence incriminated by Article 387(2) of the Criminal Code (racial and other discrimination), the provision prohibiting and penalising \u201cpersecution of organisations or individuals for advocating the equality of people\u201d (paragraph 2).<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">EXPLANATION<\/h3>\n<p>The subject of the report, Dragan Jovanovi\u0107, is the Mayor of Topola and senior official (Deputy President) of the political party New Serbia. In his capacity of state and party official, Jovanovi\u0107 rallied a group of people to attend the scheduled promotion of the show Pe\u0161\u010danik in the Arandjelovac Culture Hall and to employ physical and verbal violence to prevent the holding of the event. The scheduled promotion had all the elements of a legal public gathering. However, Jovanovi\u0107 and his followers, around 1,000 of them according to his allegations, prevented the holding of the gathering. The members of the group physically entered the hall where the panel discussion was to have been held and positioned themselves between the organisers, speakers and peaceful citizens awaiting the beginning of the event in the hall.<\/p>\n<p>Two days after the event, Jovanovi\u0107 reiterated his calls for the persecution of the authors of Pe\u0161\u010danik and RTV B92. In his official statement issued in the capacity of Topola Mayor, Jovanovi\u0107 said he would continue taking similar steps in the future and even called for a \u201crebellion\u201d. In his statement, Jovanovi\u0107 says: \u201cIt gives me comfort that I\u2019ve been declared the leader of the rebellion against B92, and, given that all uprisings have started in \u0160umadija, I hope that this spark of rebellion against tyrants will awaken the other communities to offer resistance as well\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Evidence: Text of the public statement published on the official Topola Municipality website on 4 December 2007; (<a href=\"https:\/\/topola.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.topola.com<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>New Serbia, the party in which Jovanovi\u0107 holds the post of Deputy President, admitted its official had taken part in the staging of this illegal act and announced similar activities in the future, whereby it grossly abused political power and influence to create conditions for the persecution of individuals and organisations advocating human rights and equality.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Evidence: Text of the New Serbia Press Department statement \u201cStop the Anti-Serbian Campaign\u201d, published on New Serbia\u2019s official website; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nova-srbija.org.yu\/index1.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.nova-srbija.org.yu\/index1.htm<\/a>)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Three days after the interruption of the panel discussion, Jovanovi\u0107 continued persecuting its organisers and RTV B92 in an interview to the popular daily Politika. Jovanovi\u0107 again threatened to resort to violence in the interview, when he said \u201cIf B92 goes on like this, it will end up like TV Bastille\u201d (as RTS used to be called in the nineties). After the journalist warned him that he had issued a serious threat and asked \u201cWho are colleagues in B92 in danger of?\u201d, Jovanovi\u0107 replied: \u201cThose who think Serbia is not what Soros, Nata\u0161a Kandi\u0107, \u010ceda\u2026 are offering. Someone will have to say \u2018enough\u2019 one day\u2026 We have experience. Real, practical experience.
