The analysis was presented in detail by its authors: <em>Vladi\u0107a Ili\u0107<\/em>, Head of BCHR Legal Team, <em>Sanja Radivojevi\u0107<\/em>, BCHR Senior Legal Adviser and <em>Petar Vidosavljevi\u0107<\/em>, BCHR Legal Adviser.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-6043 media-6043\" class=\"align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC_0029.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Serbia was declared responsible by the UN Committee against Torture for violating the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatments or Punishments due to the<br \/>\nextradition of Kurdish political activist Cevdet Ayaz to Turkey on December 25, 2017.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-6047 media-6047\" class=\"align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC_0044.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although this case attracted a lot of public attention, it did not remain alone, considering that in January 2022, an even more dramatic example of human rights violations occurred in the execution process, when Serbia extradited to the Kingdom of Bahrain a citizen of that country despite the provisional measure the European Court of Human Rights imposed regarding this extradition procedure.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-6057 media-6057\" class=\"align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC_0163.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The aforementioned two cases were the reason for the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights to prompted investigation on the practice of the higher courts and the Ministry of Justice in extradition proceedings in the last five years, i.e. from the beginning of 2017 to the end of 2021, and to find out whether there were any other cases \u2013 those that did not reach the general public \u2013 where foreign nationals were extradited despite serious risks that they would face persecution, death penalty, torture, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment, or other forms of flagrant denial of justice in their countries of origin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-6049 media-6049\" class=\"align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/DSC_0065.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The analysis \u201c<em><strong>Compliance with the non-refoulement principle in extradition procedures in Serbia from 2017 to<\/strong> <strong>2021<\/strong><\/em>\u201d in English is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Compliance-with-the-Non-Refoulement-za-web-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Video from the presentation of the analysis is here:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"PREDSTAVLJANJE ANALIZE SA PREPORUKAMA - PRINCIP NON-REFOULEMENT U POSTUPCIMA IZRU\u010cENJA\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gjsOnH2WYr0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights presented the new analysis \u201cCompliance with the non-refoulement principle in extradition procedures in Serbia from 2017 to 2021\u201d.
