For the first time in Serbia, permanent residence<\/strong> has been granted to a refugee from Burundi. This was made possible by amendments to the Law on Foreigners<\/strong>, which came into effect on 1 February 2024.<\/p>\n

The changes to the law allow individuals who have been granted refugee status in Serbia to apply for permanent residence after three years of living in the country.<\/p>\n

This is exactly what a client of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights<\/strong> did, becoming the first refugee in Serbia to receive permanent residence.<\/p>\n

Since 2012, the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights has been providing free legal assistance<\/strong> to asylum seekers and persons granted international protection in Serbia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
