{"id":9931,"date":"2026-01-14T16:38:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T15:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/?p=9931"},"modified":"2026-01-20T12:32:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T11:32:48","slug":"two-regional-online-meetings-held-with-civil-society-organizations-from-the-western-balkans-within-the-eu4fast-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bgcentar.org.rs\/en\/two-regional-online-meetings-held-with-civil-society-organizations-from-the-western-balkans-within-the-eu4fast-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Regional Online Meetings Held with Civil Society Organizations from the Western Balkans within the EU4FAST Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Within the project Specialised Support to (Potential) Victims of Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking and Legal Pathways for Vulnerable Groups in Serbia \u2014 implemented as part of the wider regional EU4FAST programe \u2014 two regional online meetings were held with civil society organisations (CSOs) providing free legal aid and support to refugees, asylum seekers and people on the move across the Western Balkans.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first meeting took place in June 2025, while the second was held on 14 November 2025. The meetings brought together representatives of organisations from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania. The meetings were organised by the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, with participation from the following organisations and partners: the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association (North Macedonia), Civic Alliance (Montenegro), the Croatian Law Centre and the Centre for Peace Studies (Croatia), Va\u0161a Prava and World Vision (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Streha (Albania), as well as representatives of GIZ Serbia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the meetings, participants discussed current migration trends in the region, access to asylum, border procedures, labour exploitation and human trafficking. They exchanged information on shared challenges, including low recognition rates in asylum procedures, lengthy and inefficient procedures, limited access to legal protection, the continued practice of unlawful pushbacks, increasing risks of labour exploitation, and insufficient identification and protection of victims of trafficking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Particular emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen cross-border cooperation and ensure continuity of support for particularly vulnerable groups, including victims of trafficking, unaccompanied and separated children, and persons with psychosocial needs. The importance of strategic litigation as a tool for systemic change was also highlighted, with a focus on the early identification of cases of strategic relevance and the exchange of legal arguments and case law among organisations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The discussions also addressed upcoming policy and legislative developments, including the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum and debates on return hubs, stressing the need for greater transparency and meaningful involvement of civil society in these processes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As one of the key outcomes of the meetings, participants agreed to further strengthen regional cooperation through more frequent online exchanges, enhanced collaboration on strategic litigation, exploring models for cross-border case monitoring with full respect for the rights of beneficiaries, and the development of joint recommendations to strengthen cooperation among civil society organisations in the region. These recommendations will be presented at a regional conference to be held in Belgrade in spring 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meetings confirmed the importance of a strong and coordinated civil society voice in the Western Balkans, as well as the organisations\u2019 commitment to continued cooperation in order to improve the protection of the rights of refugees, asylum seekers and people on the move in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This activity is part of the EU4FAST project, implemented by a consortium of partners* and financially supported by the European Union, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Italian Ministry of the Interior and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>*Deutsche Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Federal Police (Bundespolizei), the Centre for International Legal Cooperation (CILC, the Netherlands), CIVIPOL (the international technical cooperation operator of the French Ministry of the Interior), and the Ministries of the Interior of Austria, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Within the project Specialised Support to (Potential) Victims of Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking and Legal Pathways for Vulnerable Groups in Serbia \u2014 implemented as part of the wider regional EU4FAST programe \u2014 two regional online meetings were held with civil society organisations (CSOs) providing free legal aid and support to refugees, asylum seekers and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":9927,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[20],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9931","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
