Leading Cases of the Human Rights Committee
The publication comprises cases considered by the Human Rights Committee through which the application of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights can be observed via the failing of individual complaints in accordance with the Optional Protocol to the Covenant. The authors present the leading cases that clarify interpretation of the Pact’s provisions. The publication contains texts of the Covenant, two Optional Protocols, and extracts from the Human Rights Committee’s Rules of Procedure. Selected cases consider issues regarding the right to life; prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment; liberty and security of person; right to a fair trial; freedom of movement, privacy and family; freedom of religion and conscience; freedom of expression, assembly and association; prohibition of discrimination; rights of minorities; right to take part in public affairs and the right to self-determination.
