Selected Decisions on Human Rights V – Judgements of the European Court of Human Right Relating to the Liberty and Security of Person
This collection of nine European Court of Human Rights’ judgments is related to respect of the rights guaranteed by article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights in situations where a person is deprived of their liberty. Each judgment considers national legislation and its compatibility with European standards for the protection of liberty and security of person. Selected judgments are dealing with: position of persons deprived of their liberty in prison; urgency of decision-making; reasons given to justify initial detention and its extension; duration of the procedure; legality of the deprivation of liberty in order to prevent the spread of contagious diseases; deprivation of liberty of mentally ill persons.
