“Rights in Focus” training gathered young people from nine cities across Serbia

From 18 to 22 October, the Youth Programme of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights held the training “Rights in Focus” on Divčibare Mountain, bringing together 20 young people from nine Serbian cities – Belgrade, Loznica, Subotica, Novi Pazar, Vranje, Dimitrovgrad, Pirot, Preševo, and Sjenica.

Throughout five days of learning and exchange, participants took part in interactive workshops, discussions, and teamwork, exploring topics such as (anti)discrimination, solidarity, human rights, and equality. They learned how to recognize discrimination and how to react when they encounter it in their surroundings.

Alongside the educational programme, participants enjoyed time in nature – hiking mountain trails, visiting waterfalls, and conquering Divčibare’s peaks, while building trust, friendship, and team spirit.

Evening sessions were dedicated to sharing personal stories, discussing challenges, and developing local ideas for fighting discrimination in their own communities.

The training is part of the “Rights in Focus” Programme – an initiative that gives young people the opportunity to learn about youth rights, design local actions, and become part of the Youth Alliance Against Discrimination. In the coming months, participants will stay connected through online sessions and joint initiatives, continuing their engagement in promoting equality and solidarity in their communities.

The training was implemented by the team of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights within the programme of the same name, which aims to educate and empower young people to stand up against discrimination and to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for promoting equality and justice.

The programme “Rights in Focus” is officially titled “#SteppingStones to Youth Diversity in Serbia: Empowering Youth with Knowledge, Skills and Protection Mechanisms for Anti-Discrimination 2” and is implemented by the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights with the financial support of the European Union.
