International conference “Challenges of Solidarity – Intercultural Competences and Innovative Approaches” in Zagreb

Representatives of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, Jelena Ilić Stojadinović and Andrijana Miljković, took part in the international conference “Challenges of Solidarity – Intercultural Competences and Innovative Approaches”, held on 17 June 2026 at the Travno Cultural Centre in Zagreb.

The conference was organised by the partner organisation Zemljani – Are You Syrious? from Croatia, within the framework of the joint Erasmus+ project “Intercultural Competences and Innovative Approaches in Working with Refugees and Migrants”, implemented by the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and Zemljani – Are You Syrious? with the support of the European Union.

The conference brought together participants from several European countries, including representatives of civil society organisations, public institutions, and experts in the fields of migration, integration, and human rights protection.

The Belgrade Centre for Human Rights took part in a panel discussion dedicated to a regional overview of current challenges in the field of migration and integration. On this occasion, we presented the perspective from Serbia, with a particular focus on the position of refugees, asylum seekers, and persons under temporary protection, challenges in accessing rights, as well as the importance of intercultural competences in working with refugees and migrants.

In the second part of the programme, an interactive workshop was held, during which participants, working in thematic groups, discussed the development of effective and inclusive support systems in the areas of social services, employment, education, and healthcare.

The conference once again confirmed the importance of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and cross-sectoral dialogue in building more open, solidary, and inclusive societies.

We would like to thank Zemljani – Are You Syrious? for the invitation, hospitality, and successful cooperation throughout the implementation of the project.
