January 2023 - September 2024

Donor: European Union through the European Instrument for Human Rights and Democracy (EIDHR)

The Belgrade Center for Human Rights, together with the International Commission of Jurists from Brussels, will be a partner of the non-governmental non-profit foundation Civic Alliance from Montenegro in the implementation of the project, which is based on the rule of law and the protection of human rights.

During the 20 months of the project, the Center’s associates will provide support to the foundation during the consolidation of democracy in Montenegro by involving civil society in decision-making processes and strengthening the rule of law, as well as the protection of basic rights in Montenegro, in accordance with the negotiation process. The project will include the strengthening of the judiciary, justice, the protection of basic human rights in Montenegro (with a focus on vulnerable groups), the efficiency and transparency of the judicial system and the police in ensuring justice in connection with the protection of basic human rights (with a focus on the rights of persons deprived of liberty), as well as increasing the capacity of police officers, judges and prosecutors. In order to bring issues of justice and the connection between justice and human rights into everyday discourse, the project will also focus on public dialogue. To that end, efforts will be made to raise the awareness of citizens in Montenegro about these topics.
