Support for the Integration and Housing of Refugees, Migrants, and Asylum Seekers

February 2025 – January 2026

Donor: Church World Service (CWS)

Belgrade Centre for Human Rights has launched the project “Support for the Integration of Ukrainians in Private Accommodations and at the Asylum Center in Vranje”, which is part of the broader CWS 2025 – Ukraine Response Program Serbia and will be implemented from February 2025 to January 2026.

The project is focused on providing housing and integration support to Ukrainian refugees, asylum seekers, persons under temporary protection, as well as other vulnerable groups – persons with disabilities, unaccompanied children, elderly individuals, survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, and LGBTI+ persons with legal status in the Republic of Serbia.

Activities are carried out in Belgrade and Novi Sad with individuals residing in private accommodations, as well as in the Asylum Center in Vranje.

In addition to housing support, beneficiaries are provided with comprehensive integration assistance through access to rights and services in Serbia. Free legal aid and representation will be offered to persons under temporary protection and asylum seekers. We also provide support in procedures for obtaining personal documents, diploma recognition, access to education and the labor market, as well as in exercising the right to family reunification and other forms of legal protection.

The project also includes the distribution of financial vouchers for food and hygiene products for persons under temporary protection and asylum seekers, as well as emergency housing support for up to 30 days, based on the individual needs of beneficiaries. Legal counseling is provided both in the field and at the office, while continuous support is offered to beneficiaries in exercising their socio-economic rights throughout the integration process.

Work with beneficiaries is based on an individualized approach, aligned with their needs and relevant international standards, through the implementation of a comprehensive human rights- based and gender-sensitive approach.

One of the project’s goals is to contribute to the creation of a more supportive and inclusive environment in society through public advocacy activities and the promotion of successful examples of integration. These efforts also highlight the challenges faced by vulnerable groups in Serbia, as well as their capacities and contributions to local communities.
