Enhancing Efficiency and Visibility of Independent Regulatory Bodies in Serbia

During the project, Belgrade Centar for Human Rights will keep track of the effectiveness of the on-ground implementation of recommendations issued by the Ombudsperson (the State Ombudsman, Provincial Ombudsman and the local branch offices in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja) and the Equality Commissioner on the territory of 10 strategically selected cities/municipalities in Serbia by focusing on Albanian, Bosniak and Hungarian national minorities. Our Tomorrow – Chance for a New Beginning

Duration: November 2012

The project aimed to contribute to the promotion of the rights of young people through their perceptions of their own future. In November, they had the opportunity to participate in a creative competition, win a prize and present their work. There was also a visit to the Juvenile correctional facility in Krusevac where young people from the majority population met and socialized with young people who had different life experiences. Providing Legal Assistance to Asylum Seekers

With UNHCR’s support, the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights has been implementing a project aimed at providing adequate legal assistance to asylum seekers. The BCHR team will be continuously in touch with the asylum seekers by regularly visiting the reception centres at which they are accommodated. (more…)

“Rate Your Rights”

The UNDP, the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights and media company B92 launched the “Rate Your Rights” campaign to involve the citizens in rating the implementation of the Human Rights Council recommendations to the Republic of Serbia in the first round of the Universal Periodic Review. A questionnaire was published on the B92 website, one of the most popular news portals in Serbia. Over 3000 replies to the 18 questions in the questionnaire were posted between 9 June and 15 September 2012. The number of replies and their content demonstrate major public interest in the state’s attitude toward individuals, vulnerable groups and the general state the Serbian society is in. The respondents did not give only general assessments, but shared their personal experiences as well.   (more…)

Human Rights School 2012

Duration of Human Rights School: 5. – 14. November 2012.

This project is the continuation of the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights’ long tradition in educational activities, which have been part of the Centre’s field of work since its inception. This year’s Human Rights School was the eightnteenth annual such school. It was aided by the Balkan Trust – The Project of the German Marshall Fund and the City of Belgrade’s Agency for Cooperation with NGOs and European Harmonization and the Belgrade Youth Office offered their premises (Info Room) for the School. The School brings together participants interested in this field, who range from law students, political science or social science students, postgraduates and NGO activists from Serbia on the one hand, and on the other, relevant experts in this field, representatives of international institutions and NGOs.
